Exercising While Pregnant


I wrote a blog on exercising while pregnant a few weeks ago. All of these are things I’ve done while pregnant.

People are always recommending swimming to pregnant women. I don’t have a pool, and none of the gyms in my area offer any pregnancy-specific swim classes. However, I did go swimming at a friend’s house once over the summer, and holy crap! It was really hard to keep myself afloat! I wouldn’t go in the deep end, because it was a struggle to pull all that extra body weight. It was completely unexpected. I thought swimming would be stress-free and easy, because you’d be all floaty and weightless. But no. Swimming while pregnant only works if you have giant biceps.

I did a few prenatal yoga classes, too. I didn’t take too many though, because they were somewhat expensive, and I already belong to a gym so it didn’t make sense for me to pay additional fees to the yoga place. These classes where all right. I’ve never been a big fan of yoga to begin with. I’ve always found it too slow-paced, but I will say that some of the body weight and balance stuff is a lot harder to do when you’re pregnant.

If you know me at all, of course kick boxing is my favorite activity. In the aforementioned blog, I talk about how I’ve been pretty consistent with going to classes, and right now, at 37ish weeks pregnant, I’m still able to go.

I will say, the baby doesn’t kick much when I exercise. He usually takes that time to nap, so I guess when he’s out, he’ll really enjoy being rocked to sleep.
