An Ode to my Child-Free Friends

childfreewebI love my friends who don’t have kids. I’m sure they all have different reasons for not wanting/having kids. I don’t know. It’s rude to ask, right? I know some of them just don’t want kids, and that’s fine. But I’ve read countless articles that pit the breeders against the child-free. And I don’t get it. Why are people calling them (specifically, women) selfish for not having kids? Why is it anyone’s business whether or not they have kids?

And why do so many women leave their child-free friends in search of mommy friends the second they have a kid? I love my mom friends too, but I still respect the opinions of my friends who don’t have babies. They’re still fun to hang out with. And they’ll always tell you your kid is the best (to your face) because they don’t have a dog in the race.

In conclusion, childless friends rock, mommy friends rock, and we shouldn’t pick our buddies based on what may or may not have come out of their vagina.

(Oh, also, special shout-out to Jennifer Tanner and her cute new haircut/hair color in the first panel. Check out her comics here.)
