Happy Breastfeeding Awareness Week! On August 10, I’ll have been breastfeeding for nine months! It really hasn’t been easy for me (recurrent plugged ducts, milk blisters, mysteriously skinny baby but actually that’s not because of breastfeeding but it stilled freaked me out), but hopefully my son will get some of those benefits breastfed babies are supposed to get, and all this pain and suffering will be worth it. Or maybe he won’t get any of the benefits and I’ll have destroyed my nipples for nothing, who knows?
In this comic, I’m breastfeeding without a cover. I’ve done that before, but it’s rare. I usually cover, because I was raised Catholic and it would involve years of therapy for me to bust out my boob in a restaurant. Also, my son gets distracted by everything. Everything. If I could put a sensory deprivation chamber on my boob, I would. But the best I can do is a thin sheet of fabric. Anyway, I applaud women who are able to breastfeed uncovered in public. And women who breastfeed covered in public. And women who pump and give it to their kid in a bottle. And you know what? Women who formula feed, because ‘ya gotta feed those babies, people!
