So I recently bought a membership to our local zoo. It’s pretty small and mostly petting zoo-type animals. They do have some good exotic creatures. The last time we were there, the zebras got somewhat lose to the fence, and you could get a really good look at them. Did my son see them at all? Probably not. He was preoccupied with the ants on the tree next to the zebra pen. His back was faced completely away from the zebras, and he kept pointing and chanting, “Ant! Ant!” He was so excited over that damn ant. We have plenty of ants at home so I don’t know why this one was so thrilling.
I ended up drawing a squirrel in this comic, because squirrels seem more entertaining than ants. Also, I’m not sure if my son even knows what a squirrel is at this point. We live in a field in the country, so the hawks ensure we don’t see many of them. And I drew an elephant because I think they’re easier to draw than zebras.
